Firstly, congratulations. You’ve taken the first step to breaking away from uncomfortable sports bras and swimsuits forever. Hooray!
Ah, waiting. As the anticipation for your Basewear arrival builds check out our Instagram @terakaia and scope out all the amazing folks in our community!
Tracking number says delivered but your package isn’t there? Do not fret.
Sometimes the postal service tracking is a bit out of sync. Give it a few days to show up, and double check your tracking code to make sure your address was typed in correctly. If the package doesn’t show for a few days, continue to not fret. Packages don’t get lost or stolen very often, but it does happen occasionally. We’ll help you get a replacement, just email us at orders@terakaia.com.
Your package is here - hooray! Carefully open the biodegradable packaging so you can re-use it if you need to do an exchange.
Unpack your Basewear and try it on! You can remove the tag if you like, but keep the panty liners on for this step. Hold on to the cute printed cards - there might be a discount code for your next purchase, and maybe one to share with friends.
See how the fit feels for you. Everyone is different, and try as we might, we really can’t predict your size until you are able try it on for yourself.
If you’ve got the right fit, well done! You nailed the assignment of measuring before you purchased with a bit of luck and research. You’ll probably know immediately with an “ooh, ahhh!” from the first look in the mirror. Congratulations on your new Basewear, and you’re ready to take those puppies out into the wild!
If you aren’t sure if it’s the right fit, or if it isn’t fitting at all DO NOT PANIC. In fact, this is completely normal and expected. We anticipate almost every first time Basewear wearer to go through at least one exchange before they find the perfect size and cut for their body type. Our sizing is a little different because it’s our mission to redefine the way clothes fit and function!
Here’s a quick chart for how to solve most fit issues:
Fit Issue: | Suggested Next Steps: |
Things feel a little tight, but not too bad. (Tops and Bottoms) | Try wearing the garment for a day or two, especially in the water. Basewear will generally adapt to your shape after a few wears. Don’t worry about keeping it pristine - we will accept an exchange no matter what condition it’s in after you swim! |
Band is too loose (Tops and Bottoms) | Size down one numerical size. |
Band is too tight (Tops and Bottoms) | Size up one numerical size. |
Not enough coverage (Undesired boob, buns, or nip slippage is occuring) |
First make sure the band feels tight enough. If it does, you need to adjust your cut!
For Basewear Tops: If you have a Low Cut, we recommend exchanging for a High Cut. If you are wearing a High Cut, you will likely need a Crop Top, or our future design “Full Cut”. Email info@terakaia.com so we can get you in on early access and help you with a special exchange if so.
For Basewear Bottoms: If you are trying on the TOURA Brief or Thong we recommend giving the MARA High Waist a try for more coverage. |
Straps are too tight / uncomfortable (Tops) |
Some customers experience a little tightness on the shoulder straps, although it’s pretty uncommon if you have the correct size. Try sizing up if the garment overall feels a bit too snug, or try wearing it out in the wild for a few days, including the water to make sure the garment can adapt to your form.
If the straps are still bothering you we’d recommend you try the MARA High Cut or Crop Top. Since the strap has more surface area, it distributes the weight more evenly on the shoulder. |
Needs more Compression (Tops) | If you are trying a MARA switch to a TOURA for a slightly more compressive fit. However, Basewear Tops in general isn’t designed for high compression. We like to think of them as a gentle hug that keeps you covered and secure, without squeezing too hard. Basewear is designed for low impact activities and keeping you as comfortable as possible. |
Needs less Compression | Looking for full breathability? MARA High Cut may be the way to go. It’s more coverage, but less compression for a nice breathable fit. |
Not Flattering (Tops) | It’s very uncommon for our customers to find Basewear tops to be unflattering when it’s the correct size and cut. We’d recommend troubleshooting to see if you simply need to switch sizes or cuts first. Check out the other issues in this table and see if any of them apply. |
Not Flattering (TOURA Brief + Thong) | The TOURA Brief and Thong is our trickiest fitting garment. If you aren’t digging the look, we’d recommend first trying a different size, (usually one size up), as this can often solve the issue. Alternatively, The MARA High Waist is a much more universally flattering and easy to fit bottom option. |
Band is gaping, but everywhere else fits correctly | This is our most uncommon fit issue, and we recommend emailing our product designers at product@terakaia.com with fit photos for a more specific suggestion. |
If you still aren’t sure you can always get our help by reaching out to us at orders@terakaia.com. If you are comfortable doing so, attach a few photos to your email showing how the garment is fitting. Our all women team will review and help you with a suggestion as best we can.
Once you know your new size just then head to www.terakaia.com/exchanges to get started with the exchange portal. It’s super easy! Here’s what you need to do:
**Note** Please do not ship back to us using a UPS shipping label, or any pre-purchased and labeled USPS packaging. The post office is most picky about what it will accept in our PO Box.***
Hang tight and we will get to your exchange as soon as we possibly can!
Everything in your Basewear packaging is 100% compostable: even the printed shipping label, and the ink on your printed card.
We do recommend shredding or snipping your packaging into the smallest possible chunks before composting at home. Time to full degradation will depend on your individual composting set up.
We’re big fans of composting at TK, so perhaps we’ll do a blog post about this in the future!
Here’s the best part. Put your Basewear to the test! Head out to your favorite outdoor spot and let your Basewear be the only item you need to pack. Sweat in it, swim in it, everything!
We accept exchanges at any point in time* as a part of our perfect fit guarantee, so don’t worry about getting your Basewear a lil’ gross.
*The exception here would be Basewear Bottoms - since we can’t resell used bottoms depending on the type of wear, please try to exchange first. That said, we still accept exchanges under almost any circumstance if you really need it. 🤗
Take pics, take vids, have fun! Tag us on IG, or include them in your review. Not only does it bring infinite joy to our lives to see the adventures you go on in your Basewear, it also really helps our grassroots operation.

Once you have worn your Basewear into the dirt (which we know you will) you can extend its life and keep it out of landfill with a Basewear Repair. Repairing your TK tops can be a lengthy but fun DIY process. In most cases, there are only a few things that need to be adjusted or repaired before your Basewear makes its way back into the wild.
The result of your repair is a beautiful new Basewear design and the gratifying feeling of a job well done. Not only are you taking sustainability into your own hands, you’re going to get to love your Basewear on even more adventures.
Can I still purchase a Basewear Repair Service and have your team fix my Basewear? Our Basewear repair program is currently closed to the public. We do plan to re-open it to TK supporters, but it will be a VIP perk for something we are working on! Want an early in? Email us at info@terakaia.com to get more information.
So, proceed forward with your own caution! (If your Basewear repair goes south, you can always email us - we won’t be able to fix it for you but we can give you a discount code on a new item.)
Follow the steps below as our Repair Tailor Hannah walks you through specific instructions on how to bring your Basewear back to life.
Here’s what you need to complete a Basewear Repair on your own.
Basewear Repair Supply List:
Straight Stitch Sewing Machine
Coverstitch Sewing Machine and/or Serger Sewing Machine (recommended for a stronger repair)
Replacement Fabric and/or Elastic
*Need some scrap fabric or elastic for repair? Email us at info@terakaia.com and we’ll send you some for free! We keep all the scraps from our prototyping process and repurpose them so they don’t end up in a landfill.
Pins
Seam Ripper
Ruler and/or Curved Ruler
Take a look at your Basewear - it’s been through a lot. Focus in and identify key parts of the top that need to be replaced. Ask yourself the following questions as you inspect your repair:
Do the straps need to be tightened?
Has the elastic band become worn out and loose?
Is the fabric stretched out or pilled in a certain area?
Have any of the seams ripped?
Have any of the straps popped?
Assess the length and elasticity of the straps. Over time the straps may loosen and may need to be shortened.
If you are going to shorten the straps, first try your top on. Pinch the straps at your shoulder to determine how much they need to be shortened. Make a note of approximately how much of the straps you want to cut off.
There are three types of Basewear Repairs, ranging in difficulty. If you are new to sewing or don’t have access to a serger or coverstitch machine, we don’t recommend starting with a hard repair. Or, save that project for some really messed up Basewear and go into it as a learning experience.
Simple Repair (Beginner-ish):
Shortening Straps
Repair Popped Stitch
Repair Popped Strap
Full Repair (Intermediate)
Grafting in New Fabric Patches
Band Replacement (Advanced)
Replacing the Elastic Band (often involves a Full Repair as well)
It may be emotionally jarring to rip apart your Basewear - but it has to be done for the greater good of your item! Start by cutting the straps at the seam, then seam ripping the two layers apart so that you can access the interior of the garment.
Note: Basewear is constructed inside out, then flipped right side in. The escape hole to flip your Basewear, either way, is located under the tag.
Time for the fun(ish) part! If you are doing a Full Repair, which involves grafting in new fabric, you get to pick your color palette and plan the visual design of your repair.
Hannah says: “When choosing a new design for the repaired top I try to stick with the same color tones as the original top.”
Important: Make sure to use a half-inch seam allowance when cutting out the new shape.
Now it’s time to bring it all back together. Choose the steps below that are related to the type of Repair you are attempting.
Full Repair (Intermediate)
Start by sewing together your patches. Line up the pieces, pin together, then sew using a serger for a stronger stitch.
Once the patches are sewn together to create one pattern piece, line them back up to the original top, and sew them together at the seam edges.
Band Replacement (Advanced): If the elastic band was removed during the process sew it back to the bottom using a coverstitch machine.
Adjust the straps to the desired length of the straps you measured back in Step 2.
Secure the straps into place using a safety pin then flip the top inside out using the escape hole at the back where the old tag was sewn on.
3. Remove the safety pins & secure the strap with pins
4. Sew straps back together using a serger, and remove pins.
5. Flip the top right side out again and repeat the last step with the other side.
You’re almost there! Just two more details to have your new Basewear Repair patched up and ready to hit the wild.
Sew the inside straps together using a diamond. If you’re not sure where to do this, try the top on and ask a friend to pin the inner straps together on your back where it is most comfortable.
Sew the tag back on, placing it just over the escape hole. You can use a straight or zig-zag stitch here. Dealer’s choice!
Well done to you! Your Basewear is Repaired and ready to be released back into the wild. Don your new design, and take a breath in. All that hard work paid off big time. You’ve empowered yourself with the knowledge of how to repair your garments and keep them out of a landfill.
Repairing your garments isn’t easy, but it is satisfying. By forming an intimate bond with your clothes you’re more likely to repair them and less likely to replace them. At this point, that’s the most sustainable option we have.
We've got unique bodies, and finding the perfect bottoms to fit your body type can be tough. Our sizing is based on hundreds of fit tests so we can include EVERYTHING that matters to you about your sizing (like those fabulous buns, of course)! This isn't your average pair of undies so it can affect your standard measurements. Prepare your peaches to find the perfect fit!
Ready to give up all your old undies and replace them with Basewear Bottoms? Great! Grab a piece of string or measuring tape and figure out your size by following the steps below.
Use the measuring tape to wrap around your hips, just over your hip bone. Make sure to shed your current undies and don your birthday suit for the most accurate measurement. Remember to keep the tape parallel with the ground, and measure with a relaxed abdomen (don't try to suck anything in!). Write down your Hip Measurement to use in the next steps.
Next, wrap your measuring tape around your buns at the point where your peaches are their most plump. Make sure the tape remains parallel to the ground. Write down your Butt Measurement to use in the next steps.
WAIT! Subtract: (Butt Measurement – Hip Measurement) Is the difference 7" or more? Congrats you curvy thing you, you broke our size chart! Read on to the box below to help us perfect this guide. If the difference is under 7" carry on to the next step.
Don't worry, if the difference between your hip and butt measurements is over 7" it doesn't mean these bottoms won't fit. It just means we haven't figured out how to accurately create a size chart that checks out with the math. Help us out by sending your measurements along with a photo to info@terakaia.com and we'll be able to improve our chart to represent more body types.
Here's the easiest homework you've ever aced! Plug the measurements you just took into the equation below to get your Basewear Bottoms recommendation.
(Hip Measurement + Butt Measurement) ÷ 2 = Bottoms Measurement
Bottoms Measurement | Basewear Size |

42 - 45" | 8 |
45 - 48" | 10 |
More than 48" | 12 |
☎️Hold the phone! What do these “relaxed” and “compression” terms mean?
Since our Basewear Bottoms are bringing a broader spectrum of sizing than a traditional sports bra or swimsuit, you can choose based on your preferred level of SNUG.
One size does not fit all, and it shouldn't have to. We’re re-defining the way we fit the modern body to take into consideration those things the big companies forgot about (like muscles, duh)! This isn't your average sports bra so it can affect your standard measurements. Don’t worry - we got your lats! 💪
Did you know that more than 75% of people are wearing the wrong size bra? Yea, we didn't trust the lady at the mall either. Grab a piece of string or measuring tape and take matters into your own hands by following the steps below.
Use the measuring tape to wrap around the fullest part of your breast, which likely runs just above or on the nipple and above your lats. Make sure to shed your current bra and don your birthday suit for the most accurate measurement. Remember to keep the tape parallel with the ground, and measure with a gentle exhale. Round down to the nearest whole number and write down your chest measurement to use in the next steps.
Next, wrap your measuring tape around your torso just below your breasts after a gentle exhale. Make sure the tape remains parallel to the ground. Round down to the nearest whole number and use your band measurement to determine your size in the chart below.
Band Size | Basewear Size | Numerical Size |
*This is different from your standard bra size, use the band size you just measured. |

🌶️ Wait a hot tamale! What do these “relaxed” and “compression” terms mean?
Since the TOURA is bringing a broader spectrum of sizing than a traditional sports bra or swimsuit, you may choose a fit that's optimal for you!
Here's the easiest homework you've ever aced! Plug the measurements you just took into the equation below to get your TOURA Cut recommendation.
Chest Measurement - Band Measurement = Cut Size
Cut Size | Recommended TOURA Cut |
Chest Measurement - Band Measurement = Cut Size *Use your chest and band measurements above to calculate your “Cut Size”. |
|
0 – 2" |
Low Cut
*The Low Cut is not recommended for inversions or high impact activities. If you are at all worried about the dreaded “nip slip” we recommend going with a High Cut, regardless of your measurements. |
3" | Low Cut Flattering Fit → High Cut Supportive Fit |
4" – 6" | High Cut |
7"+ | Crop Top or Full Cut (In Development) |
